Let Hubby's Retirement begin! Yes, today was his first official day of Retirement, and yes, he is working. FB friends seem to find this no big surprise. I've known it was going to happen for quite awhile, just didn't realize that he wouldn't be able to take the company car. It's parked out front, as he is no longer supposed to drive it.
We still may get to go out on the pontoon boats tonight, if the weather clears a bit more. The good news is that there is a party, regardless, and we are getting to provide most of the food, as there was a ridiculous amount left over from the third and final retirement party last night in Little Rock. Shrimp, pork, chicken, mushrooms, dips, roll-ups (to die for!), lemon bars, and brownies to mention a few items, await our appetites this evening.
Monday night's party was at a wonderful steak house in Edmond, OK. I can't start to describe the food, stories, or fun that we enjoyed that evening. It was a special group of people who attended. I loved the humor that surrounded us that evening.
Tuesdays gala netted us a ride on the Dart light rail from Plano to The West End where we met up at the YO Steak House for some mighty heavy hor'dourves including bacon wrapped quail, a first for me. It was such a joy to see so many friends, especially ones whom are like family to us! The ride home, of course, in the dark on the light rail, is another topic for another day. LOL!!!
Last night found us at Trios in the western part of Little Rock, once again with an abundance of food, many, many friends, and a serene setting. There were so many people there whom I'd never met before that I was a bit overwhelmed. Charles was delighted with all of the parties, I might add.
I heard many funny stories over the course of the past four days. I've made some new friends, renewed some old friendships, and enjoyed everyone with whom we conversed. I will miss the company people and company functions almost as much as BC is going to miss them. It's been a beautiful ride spanning over 40 years in the field. It is wonderful to see how well respected my husband is!
His new job is multi-faceted. It includes family consultant, head golfer, yard care-taker, animal handler, confidant, and fellow hiker. Of course, it is not limited to those duties. Since he keeps inviting folks to our home and advertising it as a Bed & Breakfast, he needs to hone his skills in the kitchen. The Bed part is easy. I'll take that on, but cooking breakfast is not my cup of tea. LOL!!!
For now we will just stick close to home and rest.
I've dug out the knitting needles and began to make my famous dishcloths again. LOL!!! And I think that a daily walk is now going to be on the agenda for both of us, as well.
I invite you to stay in touch with us. We cherish our friends! And the Welcome mat will be out again, starting in January. LOL!!!
Blessings, as always,
Sandy
