Day 3: Are We There Yet?

Ah, day 3 is here! And with it came the realization that I made a big boo-boo by not going to bed earlier last night. I chose to watch Batman with the son-in-law and houseguest. Bed came around 12:20 am. Sometime after that, but before 1 am, our daughter’s friend called and left a message on the telephone (none of us heard the phone ringing) that they had arrived safely at their destination. When I roused myself out of bed shortly after 7 am, I discovered our son-in-law’s car was gone and that the two little boys were sitting in the big, comfortable recliner watching a movie on television. What a nanny I’ve turned out to be! By around 9 am I was wondering if it is possible to quit a nanny job for which you are not charging. The boys were very difficult to get to bed last night, and the two of them flirted with sleeping until some time after 9:30 PM. So, today we have the younger one with cranky pants on and the older one in his taunting mode. It took awhile, but I loaded up the boys, snacks, towels, etc. and headed for the splash park. I drove over an hour (the GPS system is either not working, or I don’t understand it). Our system (Gertrude) shows exactly where you are, where you need to go, and chides you for mistakes. This one doesn’t appear to do that. I finally found the Splash Pool (after the designated hour mentioned) and got the boys unloaded. One of the moms whom I sat down by said, “They just announced that if they hear thunder again, they are closing the area.” About that time (5 minutes, maybe), the older boy came running up and said, “It’s cold, can we go now?” That took care of the morning. Where did the hours go? Oh, I know. I was praying... Back home, I fixed grilled cheese, which one ate, but Mr. Picky Eater refused. He is a “noodles” kind of boy. And now I’m enjoying the only quiet time in this home that I will likely experience today, other than when the little ones are tucked away in bed at night. The little guy is napping (no shock there, as he was so fussy, he had to be tired), and the older one is “sentenced” to the sofa. When I sentenced the older dude to the sofa while his brother napped, he came up the stairs, looked at me, and said, “Nana, what is a sofa?” You got to love ‘em! I have prayed for patience today. Cranky children are certainly no fun. And the older boy loves to see if he can get his brother going. Of course, with both of them going, I am not far behind, chiming in. Saturday and Sunday, Dad will be home all day, so that should offer some much needed parental support and love. Monday starts the older boy’s camp at the YMCA from 9-4 daily. The little one should be a piece of cake alone, as most children are better by themselves. A little brotherly love “can” go a long way!

And in all of this, my cell phone, not feeling "the love," decided to fritz out on me. I know that the good Lord will not send more than I can handle... Blessings on your day, Nana
