Where is Autumn?

We went to the Dallas Arboretum looking for some fall color, but we found a summer thunderstorm waiting to happen. Believe it or not, we managed to spend over an hour at the site and not get wet. School is proceeding at its usual quick pace this year. With our new calendar we have lost our fall break. Our next opportunity for time off for both students and staff is Thanksgiving week. The grandchildren continue to do well. The youngest at well under 2 years has managed to figure out child-proof caps on medicines, safety protectors on electrical outlets, and how to bake miniature cars in the oven with baking potatoes. The middle one, a boy, 4 was giving me tips on catching bugs so that I could feed the gecko that I captured in our home yesterday. The oldest, 11, is enjoying school, still remaining a woman of few words. And so my life marches on quickly while I slow down. It is strange to be part of that routine. I used to have a fast pace, and life was fast. I saw an old friend, Catherine, this week. She is putting a new spin on some thoughts about my life. And she has challenged me to find three relaxing things I enjoy doing this week. And for me it is a challenge.

  1. I'm with you. WHERE is fall???? I loved the pictures, though. ;)

Yes, anything "childproof" in our house when our kids were that age was really just a "speedbump." It didn't keep them out, just slowed them down. A little.
